The Answer to the Golden State Warriors' Headaches: A New Logo

I do not claim to be a basketball expert, but I believe the answer to the Warriors’ problems is simply a new logo. Now before you start ripping me apart, hear me out. Real talk. The design of a sports logo is often overlooked as a non-factor in the success of a franchise, but it’s pretty damn important if you think about it. If your team logo looks wack, your jerseys will look wack, and your players will play wack. You’ll sell less jerseys, have less popular players, have a smaller payroll, and ultimately less confident players. Your team officially becomes wack.

Okay, I know that’s a bit on the extreme side of things. Let’s look at the other end of the spectrum where the logo isn’t so wack, but actually pretty cool looking – like the Warriors’ current logo. The blue guy with the lightning bolt looks badass, if you ask me. Going back to our previous logos of the yellow circle with an outline of the state of California, it’s safe to say that we took a giant step in the right direction as far as our logo is concerned. It’s modern, clean, and paves the way for an awesome mascot. So if our logo isn’t wack, why do we need a new logo?

First, let me ask you this, when you think of the word ‘warriors,’ do you think of offense or defense? Do you think of a guy who just kicks ass but can’t take a hit or defend himself? Or how about this, if you were a warrior would you have a sword with no shield? A shield with no sword, or both? Neither? Of all things you can wield, would you be a warrior with a lightning bolt? Exactly, WTF?

I’m afraid our little Warrior is holding the wrong thing. He seems to be only focused on running fast and has one thing on his mind, gogogogogogogo. This could very well be the reason why Nelly preaches a run and gun type offense and believes with his entire gut that offense is our best defense. I don’t even want to speculate because I won’t go there, but what if Nelly had something to do with the art direction of the logo design? Hmmmm…

So now the question remains, what should the new logo be? For starters, let’s take out the lightning bolt and replace it with something a real warrior would have. Perhaps both a shield and a sword would be fitting for a balanced attack. Let’s wash away the concept of fast basketball from the Warriors completely and start focusing on some tough, smart basketball. The blue guy can stay, he looks pretty cool. How’s that for a Warriors’ basketball fix?
